Overview

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid describes the skills and knowledge required to respond to emergency situations and provide first aid in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and other national clinical bodies.

The unit applies to all people who may be required to provide first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Successful completion of this unit results in the issuance of a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (SoA) for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

Course Delivery and Assessment

The course consists of approximately 16 hours of training and assessment activities, including: Online learning and assessment, Face-to-face training (practical) and assessment.

Students will be assessed by two assessment methods: Online Knowledge Questions and Direct Observation in a simulated workplace environment: Performing CPR/First Aid Management Each participant must demonstrate skills in realistic scenarios and simulations. CPR skills must be demonstrated on resuscitation mannequins in accordance with ARC guidelines.

2. Complete LLND Quiz

You will also receive instructions to complete your LLND quiz. The LLND quiz must be completed before the start of your course

3. Log In to Your Student Portal

Inside your portal, you will find everything you need to get started: Learner Guide, Course Contents, and Knowledge Assessment Workbook.

4. Complete Your Workbook

Your Knowledge Assessment Workbook must be completed and submitted before your practical session. This is critical and musn't be forgotten.

5. Arrive Ready on the Day

Please arrive a few minutes early so your training can start smoothly and on time. Come well rested and ready to learn hands-on skills.

What Will You Learn?

By the completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the scope of a First Aid practioner.
  • Recognise, assess, and respond to an emergency situations.
  • Perform CPR in accordance with the ARC guidelines.
  • Identify and operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely.
  • Communicate effectively the details of incident/emergency situations to relevant person/parties.
  • Complete applicable documentation, e.g. Incident Report Form

What does this course cover?
This is a nationally recognised first aid qualification that prepares you to handle a broad range of emergencies — from CPR and AED operation to wound care, anaphylaxis, stroke, and seizure response. The CPR unit is built into the full-day training.
How long does the course run?
The course is 16 hours long with some of it online and a mandatory full five-hour day for learning the practicals.
How often does my Provide First Aid certificate need to be updated?
Your First Aid certificate is valid for three years before renewal is required. The CPR component, however, needs to be refreshed every year, which is why a standalone half-day CPR course is also available.
Do I need prior experience to enroll?
Not at all. The course welcomes complete beginners and is equally suitable for people refreshing an existing First Aid certification.
Will my certificate be accepted by employers in Australia?
Yes. Statements of Attainment are issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework by Hopkins and are recognised by employers throughout the country.
